CUET, earlier known as central university common entrance test (CUCET), is an All-India level Test for admission to various undergraduate, integrated, postgraduate, diploma, certification courses and Research Programmes in 44 central universities of India. CUET scores are accepted by a number of other State Universities and Deemed universities of India.
Who conducts CUET?
National Testing Agency (NTA), a government testing agency, has been given the responsibility of conducting the entrance tests for all the Central Universities (CUs) for the academic session 2022-2023.
Why was there a need for CUET?
CUET test has been designed to ensure that
there is fairness in the admission process for colleges that come under the
Central Universities. Earlier there was excessive focus on the marks obtained
by a student in his 12th exam.
Only the overall score was given weightage, irrespective of his performance in his core subjects. For instance, a student who has done exceptionally well in Biology was given admission in to BSc (Biological Sciences), not on the basis of his score in Biology subject but on the basis of his performance in all the subjects combined.
This unfairness often resulted in the student not getting admission into the college/department of his choice. CUET is an effort to correct this unfairness in the selection process.
Which universities accept CUET scores?
CUET is a gateway to some of the prestigious universities participating in CUET 2022 like: Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, and Jamia Millia Islamia.
In addition to the colleges that fall under these universities, a number of state universities and private universities are likely to accept CUET scores for admissions into their undergraduate programs.
How is CUET exam conducted?
CUET provides a single window opportunity to students to seek admission in any of the Central Universities (CUs). Though not yet certain, the exam is likely to be held twice a year, one time in May/June, and the other time in Dec/Jan. CUET is a computer-based online exam, with multiple choice questions. In the broader framework, there are three sections in it.
The first section or section (A) is a general English Aptitude Test.
The second section or section (B) is domain specific test. Out of 27 domain-specific subjects, candidates can choose any two subjects in a given slot.
The third section or section (C) is general aptitude section that test consists of questions from quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, general knowledge and current affairs.
CUET Eligibility Criteria
Before starting the application process, candidates should once check out the CUET eligibility criteria set by the university in which they wish to get enrolled in. The National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the CUET eligibility criteria along with the notification brochure on the official website.
